Used Cooking Oil Recycling

UCO, a vital source of Green Energy, is a key component of our commitment to reduce global warming. Over a three- year period, we invested considerable energy and resources in the exploration of UCO processing methods, both in the UK and Europe. We applied the knowledge gained in that exploration to refine our own processing systems. Brought into operation in March 2018 and officially opened in June 2018, our newly installed state of the art recycling plant is clean, safe and hygienic.
The Recycling Process

The process starts with Fatboxxes® full of solid UCO being placed in our ‘warm room’ where the UCO is melted.

The melted UCO is then vacuum pumped through a series of filters which extracts unwanted elements such as fine particles of food.

The filtered UCO is then pumped through a Heat Exchanger, where the temperature of the UCO is raised before it is released into the settlement tank.

In the settlement tank the constituent parts of the UCO separate out leaving the water, oil and food particles all separated. This entire process takes around 48 hours to complete.

After the separation process, the separated water and food particles at the bottom of the tank are pumped off for use in an Anaerobic Digestion plant.

The processed UCO is then collected by tanker for use either to generate electricity or to process into bio diesel.
Investing in the local economy
Our new Recycling Plant has created four new jobs and we see this as a very positive investment in the local economy, the environment and the fight against Global Warming – as well as the future of Henry Colbeck.
